Virgin Mobile USA, initially established in 2001 under the UK-based Virgin Mobile brand, is a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) providing prepaid network services to younger generations across the United States, Puerto Rico, and U.S. Virgin Islands. In 2009, Virgin Mobile USA’s cellular bandwidth provider, Sprint Nextel, finalized its $483 million acquisition of the prepaid MVNO, significantly increasing Sprint’s dominance in delivering prepaid wireless services across the country.
